Where in the World is Knit and Crochet Now TV?
We are often asked which stations carry Knit and Crochet Now TV. Because the show is distributed to all PBS stations through American Public Television (APT), all PBS stations that subscribe to APT can choose to carry it if and when they please. However, we do now have a partial list of stations that have been broadcasting the show recently. If your local station doesn’t carry our program, call, write or email the station and let them know what they are missing. They listen to viewers like you!

Hopefully, it is FINALLY nearing the end of winter where you are…the days are getting longer, snow is melting (well, sort of) and sometimes it’s possible to discard a layer of clothes instead of adding one. It also means it’s time to get out the seed catalogs and to start looking at brochures for summer holidays. Can summer possibly be only 3 months away? Yippee!
If you’re looking for something special to do this summer, we’ve got a great idea. Two of the KCN experts you’ve been watching on Season 3 are the featured teachers on a crochet cruise sponsored by Craft Cruises. You heard right, a crochet cruise. What could be better than that? Spend June 5-12 on a luxury liner cruising Canada’s Inside Passage to Alaska along with other enthusiastic crocheters from around the world. The Crochet Dude, Drew Emborsky, and Myra Wood are combining their talents to lead this cruise. You can take up to 21 hours of classes plus there are stops that include yarn shopping, a Sheep to Sweater demonstration and a seaside dinner on the Vancouver waterfront.
When we touched base with The Dude, he was really excited about the trip: “I had such a great time teaching on the Aruba crochet cruise that I didn't hesitate to say "yes" to Alaska. The Alaskan Inside Passage is one of the most spectacular places on earth and to combine that with crochet is like a dream come true.”
This is Myra’s first Craft Cruise, but as you can imagine, she’s looking forward to the experience too: “I’m super excited about the trip. Cruising, crochet and meeting so many crocheters from around the world are sure to make this the highlight of my whole summer.”
Get the details on the crochet cruise itinerary and the class list, or if you’re more into knitting, spinning, or needlepoint, investigate cruises featuring those crafts too.
Bon Voyage! February 21, 2010
Do you have plans for the weekend of February 26-28?
Will you be in the Northern California area?
If you answered NO to the first question and YES to the second, we've got a great idea for you.
Visit STITCHES WEST in Santa Clara, California, a suburb of San Francisco. This 3-day extravaganza for all things knitting will inspire you for months to come. Stay for the entire three days and take classes by well-known teachers, attend a fashion show of hand-knit beauties, meet up with knitters from around the country and shop till you drop in the marketplace of over 200 vendors from around the country. It’s your chance to shop in-person with some of the best known web merchants.
Even a one day visit will give you time to meet and greet, take mini-classes in the market and still have time for an afternoon of intense retail indulgence.
When you go make sure to visit one of the best online fiber fanatic stores we know, Jimmy Beans Wool. Jimmy Beans, one of our underwriters, will have a 6-booth shop in the marketplace with a fabulous selection of the best-of-the best yarns, tools, kits and accessories from their online store. Purchases at Jimmy Beans Wool by KCN viewers lets them know you appreciate their contribution to our success. Jimmy Beans Wool can be found in Booths 631-641.
KCN Expert Maggie Pace will also be at Stitches West marketplace with her whimsical line of knitting and felting kits, Pick Up Sticks. Stop by Booth 95 and say hello to her to and let her know how much you enjoy her segments on your favorite PBS program.
Now, doesn’t that sound like fun? Happy knitting!

Behind the Scenes... With Season Three programs airing now, we thought you might enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the filming. We film Knit and Crochet Now at the studios of Detroit Public TV, WTVS. We love the staff and love their brand new production facility. We filmed the 13 episodes for Season Three in just four loooong days. Most of us arrived at the Detroit airport Sunday evening. Considering our many different starting points, it was amazing that we all managed to arrive within about an hour of each other.
Monday morning we arrived at the studio to find the set half-built. The staff worked furiously to finish it so we could rehearse in the afternoon while the cast began organizing the projects for each segment backstage so we could begin shooting promptly Tuesday morning. That’s host Brett Bara checking out the work table.
Ready to go Tuesday morning! Throughout the week two events were recurring: sound checks and last minute reviews. That’s Fred, our stage manager, checking guest expert Myra Wood's microphone at the same time Brett and Myra review all the techniques and important points to be covered in the segment.
While all the glamour is on camera, most of us were in the unglamorous backstage area.

LEFT: Expert Kristin Nicholas makes "stepouts". Each project has multiple half-completed projects to demonstrate each step. RIGHT: Expert Drew Emborsky and Guests Mary Jane Hall and Ellen Gormley backstage. The monitor is how we kept track of the live action.
After three intense days of filming, all 13 episodes were in the can. Just 24 hours later, there was no evidence of our recent filming and we were all winging our way home.
Our sets and props are stored away waiting for our return. With your support and the support of our underwriters, we will soon be unpacking them again.
January 1, 2010Welcome to our new home! As with any move…even one in cyberspace… it was more traumatic than we anticipated. It took longer, cost more and some things just didn’t turn out the way we imagined them. But, now we have worked out the kinks and as we unpack the last few "cyber- boxes" we are pleased to welcome our first visitors. We think you’ll be happy with the new sign-in procedure. After you become a member on the new site, you’ll remained logged in and be able to explore every "room" without signing in again. Although you may visit without becoming a member, you will need to become a member in order to view or download patterns and videos. So, come on in and poke around every room. If you find a few things missing or not quite right, we hope you’ll be patient. As we said, we still have a few "cyber-boxes" to unpack. New Name Along with our new website, we have a new name, Knit and Crochet Now. All our old links and email addresses will be forwarded so we hope it won’t cause any confusion to you. New Season As you read this, Episode One of Season Three may already be showing on your local PBS station. Because programs are scheduled by your local station, we can’t tell you exactly when the programs will begin in your area, so check your local listings. In Episode One you’ll meet several guest experts and learn techniques for making two adorable baby projects. Week Two changes direction to feature several eco-friendly projects. As always, the patterns will be posted on the website as the weeks progress. FYI…because of the name change, Season 3 shows may be referred to as Show 101, 102, etc. Don’t be confused! These are all brand new programs with more great projects you will love.
